Pastor Nominating Committee — March Update

February 27, 2013

Greetings from your Pastor Nominating Committee,

It is hard to believe that we are quickly approaching March.
Lent has begun and we all hold great anticipation for the days to come. It is an exciting time for First Presbyterian Church. Just as we are looking forward to the next coming of Christ, we also look forward to the next coming of a new spiritual leader in our church.

Your Pastor Nominating Committee has been very busy since the middle of November when we reviewed our first Pastor Information Form (PIF). Last month I shared with you the
progress that I believe we have made and where I believe we are in the process of finding a new head-of-staff (HOS).

I believe that we are in phase three of four phases. Rest assured that the Pastor Nominating Committee is excited to be at this point. It does not mean that we are done, or near done,
but moving in a very positive direction.

I applaud the Session and the Personnel Committee as they have diligently worked with the Pastor Nominating Committee to discuss and work through issues that affect our search
process. It has been the goal of the Pastor Nominating Committee to make sure that all decision making parties are aware of and involved in every aspect of this journey. So far I
believe that we all are on the same page.

Continue to pray for us.

Terrie Gulden (Chair), Dan Iveland (Vice Chair),
Becky Eeten (Secretary), Katie Eeten, Ann Robinson,
Amanda Van Maanen, Erin Sandstede, Phil Voigt,
Todd Wessels, Kathy Knips (Committee on Ministry Liaison)

PRAY for SAMANTHA ~ CaringBridge Link

February 24, 2013

Please continue your Prayers for Samantha VanMaanen at Sanford Children’s Hospital. Her CaringBridge site may be reached by clicking on this link: SamanthaLeeVM

Pray as well for: parents, Amanda and Justin; big brother, Jackson (almost four), and grandparents, Sam and Barb Berghorst.

Many of you on our Prayer Chain were asked on Friday morning to begin prayers for 15 month-old Samantha.  She suffered avery scary complex febrile seizure brought on by influenza B.”  The quickest way to find updates on her condition is to go to the CaringBridge site for Samantha at SamanthaLeeVM.

On Thursday evening as I was called to gather with the many family members who came through a howling snow storm to the ER and Neo-Natal Intensive Care Units , it was difficult for us to find “good news” about this sick little girl.  The three day since shown some “baby steps” out of the woods. See recent updates:

Amanda opened her daughter’s Caringbridge site with these words:

Welcome to Samantha’s caring bridge site ! Samantha turned 15 months on valentines day she is a happy, loving, fun little girl who has an unbelievable sweet tooth, smile, and laugh. She also loves to get her own way about basically everythingvia dolorosa! Big brother Jackson is almost four and mom and dad are Amanda and Justin. We are at the Sanford children’s castle fighting to get our little girl back to health after a very scary complex febrile seizure brought on by influenza B. This was complicated by a large emesis that was aspirated into her lungs. It was further complicated by bad weather and roads. Please keep praying for our little princess, our whole family and the amazing team who is caring for her!

NOT Samantha's foot BUT a reminder of Jesus' Blessing and Love for children.

NOT Samantha’s foot BUT a reminder of Jesus’ Blessing and Love for children.

Please  continue your prayers for Samantha and the entire family.

Also give thanks for:

  • Luverne volunteer EMTs, firemen, and all who support their work.
  • The Medical teams at Sanford and all our regional hospitals who respond and wait on stormy nights to help save lives (young and old).
  • Donors (both poor and rich) who give to provide equipment and facilities that are already there when tragedy strikes. (As I entered  the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit, I saw the names of Mike and Jennifer Miller on a donor plaque in the hall way. I saw hundreds of other donor plaques as well, from people who CARE.)
  • City, state, federal, business, citizen, tax-dollar funds that create the safety-nets that rush into place when we dial 911 on a phone.
  • People of Faith, Hope, and Love who create communities and nations that do the same.

In Christ’s Love,

Pastor Dan Leininger

Pastor Nominating Committee — February Update

February 2, 2013

Greetings from your Pastor Nominating Committee,

Some may think that 2013 is going to be a bad year because it ends in ‘13’. That really is unfortunate because each day presents so many positive possibilities to each of us. I’m certainly not pessimistic about 2013. Quite the contrary!

Your Pastor Nominating Committee has prepared diligently for 2013. We are convinced that we will complete the search process and hire a new ‘head-of-staff’ for First Presbyterian Church. This is an exciting time.

We have processed approximately 88 Pastor Information Forms (PIF) since our first batch was received in the middle of November. It has been a busy couple of months and I would
like to say thank you to all of the committee members who have so diligently given of their time and energy to get us to this point. You have a great group of Christians working on
this project for you.

I look at this search process as four phases. FPC-Luv-Cross-bklite

  1. The first is organizing the committee and preparing a game plan for reading and processing the PIFs. This includes the writing of our Church Information Form (CIF) and getting it loaded on the Presbyterian Church (USA) website.
  2. The second is ordering the PIFs and determining if they are a candidate that we are
    interested in visiting with.
  3. Third is making contact with the best candidates and ultimately selecting the best candidate.
  4. The fourth and final phase is the offer to hire, the move and the introduction of our new Teaching Elder to you.

I believe that we are quickly approaching the third phase. We are not done by any means but we have made significant progress. If you have a chance, thank a committee member
for what they are doing. We all are as anxious as you are to meet our new Teaching Elder.

Blessing to you and thank you for your prayers,

Your Pastor Nominating Committee,
Terrie Gulden (Chair), Dan Iveland (Vice Chair),
Becky Eeten (Secretary), Katie Eeten,  Ann Robinson,  Amanda Van Maanen,  Erin Sandstede,  Phil Voigt, Todd Wessels, Kathy Knips (Committee on Ministry Liaison)
